Awards
Welcome to the JASSS Awards section! Here, we celebrate the vital contributions that underpin the quality and integrity of the Journal of Artificial Societies and Social Simulation (JASSS).
The sustainability and success of our journal are based on a ‘social contract’ of academic citizenship, in which all members of the community – authors, editors, and reviewers – cooperate to maintain essential public goods, such as editorial work and peer review. This voluntary yet essential work is crucial to promoting innovative, rigorous and replicable research, and for maintaining the credibility and trust in science.
In a challenging academic environment that often pressures researchers, recognizing those who excel in this cooperative effort is more important than ever. Peer review, in particular, requires reviewers to bear individual costs (their time and effort) for the benefit of the whole community (authors and editors), often with few extrinsic rewards.
To support and reward this essential work, we have established two annual awards: The Best PhD Student Paper Award and the Top 5 Best Reviewers Award. In line with the vision set out in an editorial note published in 2024 (see: https://www.jasss.org/28/1/6.html), we see these awards as part of our mission to foster a context that supports sustainable science and academic citizenship.
We announce the winners of both awards on the journal’s website and social channels at the start of each academic year. We are committed to fostering an environment where the dedication to maintaining high scientific standards is acknowledged and celebrated.
